Using a skills matrix to improve processes

Many times I will enter a business and I'll see a skills matrix on a noticeboard.

Do you use them?

Many of the skills matrices I see are out of date and under used.

So, how about this for an idea?

What if we linked our skills matrix in two directions?

1 - Adding in our SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) references to the skills matrix so that we have a point of reference to help people master their skills.

2 - Use it as part of the business development team's review of the business so that we can ensure that our ongoing development of the business and our skills level meet in the middle.

Could it work for your business?
