The unsung hero of continuous improvement

I was being quizzed the other day about different improvement strategies that can be applied to businesses. They wanted to know what I thought they should focus their energies on. I just don't have time to plan my improvements!

A lot of people will tell me that part of the reason that their improvements fail is because they don't have time to come up with a proper plan. However, what they are also implying is that they have time to work in an inefficient manner longer term. That can't be right can it?

One of the initial challenges surrounding continuous improvement is getting your teams to propose improvement ideas. But, what happens when you get ideas that you can't implement immediately and you don't communicate effectively about the status of that idea?
